Guwahati Airport Layover Guide: Making the Most of Time Near LGBI

By Hotel Shiny Grand · Published 4 July 2026

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI, also called Borjhar Airport) is the gateway to Northeast India, and layovers here are common when connecting to Shillong, Tawang, Kaziranga or the rest of Assam. Here's what's realistic, based on how long you have.

Under 3 hours: stay put, eat well

Stay inside the terminal. Between security queues and boarding, a short layover disappears faster than you expect.

3–6 hours: rest properly instead of airport chairs

This is the layover most travellers waste. Hotels near the airport on VIP Road are minutes away, close enough that a few hours of a real bed, a shower and a proper meal are entirely practical. Hotel Shiny Grand offers 24-hour access (odd-hour arrivals are normal here), fast Wi-Fi to monitor your flight, and meals from our in-house chef-led kitchen and restaurant serving 30 signature dishes, a far better hour than a terminal snack counter.

6–10 hours: a taste of Guwahati

With a longer daytime gap you can venture toward the city: the Kamakhya Temple on Nilachal Hill is Guwahati's most famous landmark, and the Brahmaputra riverfront makes a memorable first impression of Assam. Keep a generous buffer for the return journey and traffic.

Overnight layover

Book a room near the airport rather than sleeping in the terminal. You'll board your morning flight rested, fed and minutes from the gate. See our guide to staying the night before an early flight.
