Guwahati to Shillong Taxi Fare 2026: Private, Shared and Airport Cab Prices
A private one-way taxi from Guwahati to Shillong costs about ₹2,200 to ₹5,000 or more in 2026, depending on the car, and a shared seat is around ₹1,000. The trip is roughly 100 km and takes 2.5 to 4 hours. Airport pickups usually cost a little more than city pickups.
These figures come from the fares listed on booking sites and local operators on 8 October 2026 plus what we quote our own guests. They are indicative: prices move with season, fuel and the hour, so always get the final number in writing.
How much is a taxi from Guwahati to Shillong?
Listed one-way private fares for the full journey, by vehicle:

What does a taxi from Guwahati airport to Shillong cost?
The airport sits at Borjhar, a little further out than the city, so airport pickups usually cost somewhat more than a pickup from the railway station or city centre. For a pre-booked car that meets you at LGBI arrivals and goes straight to Shillong, our indicative 2026 figures are:
| Option | Indicative cost | Catch |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-booked direct sedan | ₹2,800–3,800 | None: the driver waits at arrivals |
| Pre-booked direct SUV | ₹3,800–5,000 | Costs more; right for 4 or more people |
| App cab to Shillong | ₹3,000–4,200 | Drivers often decline the hill run, and cancellations are common |
Hotel Shiny Grand's one complimentary one-way airport transfer (pickup or drop) covers the ride between the airport and our hotel for guests on direct bookings. The Shillong run is a separate paid transfer we can arrange.
Shared taxi or private cab?
- Shared: cheapest per person, but the vehicle leaves when it is full, so you may wait. Shared Sumos to Shillong leave from the city (Paltan Bazaar), not the terminal, so from the airport you pay for a taxi into the city first.
- Private: door to door, a fixed fare, and the driver can take the bypass that avoids central Guwahati. For two or more people it often costs little more per head than shared plus the city taxi.
How far is it and how long does it take?
About 100 to 106 km, usually 2.5 to 4 hours depending on traffic and weather. From the airport, a driver who takes the bypass to Jorabat and then the NH6 climb via Nongpoh and Umiam typically needs 3 to 3.5 hours, and saves up to two hours compared with going into the city first. We explain the route in our direct airport-to-Shillong guide.
What about buses?
Public buses and shared vehicles also run to Shillong, mostly from the city rather than the airport. We have not verified current bus fares or timetables, so we do not quote them here. Check with the operator on the day.
How to avoid overpaying
- Ask whether the fare is per car or per seat.
- Confirm the vehicle type in writing; an Innova costs more than a sedan.
- Ask whether tolls and parking are included.
- Pre-book for late arrivals. Finding a Shillong cab after midnight is where most overpaying happens.
- Do not rely on an app cab for the hill run; drivers often cancel once they see the destination.
Going back: Shillong to Guwahati airport
Return fares are broadly in the same range as the outbound journey. Plan 3.5 to 4 hours on the road and leave more margin than you think for a flight, because rain and fog on the hill road can slow the drive. If you land late or fly early, a night near the airport removes the risk. See our early-morning flight guide.
