Kamakhya Temple Timings and the ₹501 Special Darshan Ticket (2026 Guide)
Kamakhya Temple's general darshan is widely reported as 5:30 AM to about 1:00 PM and 2:30 to 5:30 PM. The official Special Darshan ticket costs ₹501 per person and is booked on the temple's own portal, mkdonline.co.in. Timings change on festival days, so check the portal on the day you go.
The ticket price, queue windows and rules below are from the Maa Kamakhya Devalaya portal as we read it on 8 October 2026. The general timings come from widely published visitor sources, because the portal lists the Special Darshan queue windows only.
What are the Kamakhya Temple timings?
| Queue | Timings | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Special Darshan queue | 5:30 AM to 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM | Official Devalaya portal, 8 Oct 2026 |
| General darshan | about 5:30 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, with a midday break | Widely reported; confirm on the day |
The portal also shows a live status for the day (open or closed, and the current crowd level), so open it before you leave your hotel.
How much is the Special Darshan ticket and how do you book it?
- Price: ₹501 per person. Puja, panda services, offerings and other services are charged separately.
- Where: the Devalaya's official online portal. Register, choose a date and slot, and receive a digital QR pass.
- ID: carry the same original government ID you used when booking. Your photo is verified at the counter.
- Children: a pass is not required for children below the age of 10.
- Who cannot book: the portal is meant for visiting devotees. Temple staff, pandas, pujaris and Nilachal Hills residents are not permitted to book Special Darshan tickets.

What are the rules inside the temple?
- Keep shoes in the designated areas.
- Switch your mobile phone off inside the temple.
- Place offerings only at the designated spots.
- Information counters are near Gate No. 6. Use them for guidance; the Devalaya notes that help from unauthorised pandas is at your own risk.
How crowded is it, and when should you go?
Visitors report general-line waits of 3 to 5 hours on busy days, with queues starting around 5 AM. Weekday mornings outside festival periods are usually quieter. Expect heavy crowds and road controls during Navratri, Durga Puja and especially the Ambubachi Mela in June, when the temple is closed for several days; the Devalaya announces the dates each year.
How far is Kamakhya Temple from Guwahati airport?
About 20 km, a 40 to 60 minute drive depending on traffic, and a taxi costs roughly ₹600–900 (indicative 2026). Leave early: the temple is on Nilachal Hill, and the last part of the road slows down in the morning.
