Starting a Northeast Bike Trip from Guwahati: The First Night
Quick answer
| Airport | 1.7 km, five minutes |
| Parking | On-site, confirm space for a bike when booking |
| Start | Leave before 6 AM to clear the city |
| Room | Ask about drying space for wet gear |
Why the airport side suits riders
Riders arriving by air usually assemble the bike, sort luggage and leave at dawn. Doing that from the airport side avoids riding through Guwahati in the dark on the first morning. The road toward Meghalaya starts on this side of the city.
Parking and gear
Ask two questions when booking: is there covered parking for a motorcycle, and is there somewhere to hang wet riding gear. Assam and Meghalaya rain is not a seasonal event, and a room with no drying space turns a damp jacket into a problem for three days.
Keep the bike's documents and your licence on you rather than in the top box. Checkpoints on the highway ask for them.
The first morning
Leave before 6 AM. City traffic builds after 8, and the first hour on the highway is the best riding of the day. Ask the desk to confirm an early breakfast or to pack something, and settle the bill the night before so you are not waiting at reception with a helmet on.
Common questions
Is there parking for a motorcycle?
The hotel has on-site parking. Confirm covered space for a bike when you book, especially during wedding season.
What time should riders leave Guwahati?
Before 6 AM. That clears the city before traffic builds and puts you on the highway in the coolest part of the day.
Can the hotel store luggage while I ride?
Ask the desk. Leaving a bag for a few days is often possible, but confirm it before you arrive.
